UpThai is my favorite Thai restaurant in NYC and an absolute must whenever I am in the city. The cool vibe, warm lighting, and fun, friendly atmosphere make it such an enjoyable place to dine. Everything on the menu is delicious, and some dishes even change slightly with the seasons, which keeps things exciting. Our go-to favorites are the curry puffs, the Up Thai fried rice clay pot, and the beef short rib panang. Each dish is full of flavor, beautifully prepared, and perfectly spiced. UpThai never disappoints.
Overview
Up Thai at 1411 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10021, United States, is one of those hidden gems in the city where flavor and ambiance meet effortlessly. Walking in, you’re immediately greeted with a cozy, modern vibe that balances the warmth of traditional Thai décor with a contemporary New York twist. The staff’s friendly approach makes it clear that customer experience isn’t just a phrase-they genuinely care about making every visit memorable. On one of my recent visits, I noticed how attentive they were to families, couples, and even solo diners, adapting their service style to each guest seamlessly.
The menu here is a true testament to authentic Thai cuisine with inventive modern touches. I tried the pad see ew and was impressed by the perfectly chewy noodles, smoky flavors, and tender strips of meat. Each dish, from the spicy basil chicken to the green curry, is crafted with fresh ingredients, and the balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors is remarkable. Their signature dishes, particularly the tom yum soup, showcase a deep understanding of Thai cooking principles. As someone who’s sampled Thai food extensively across New York City, the level of authenticity here stood out immediately.
For those who are curious about dietary preferences, Up Thai makes it easy to customize orders. Vegetarian options are clearly labeled, and gluten-free requests are handled with care, showing a level of attentiveness that’s not always standard in fast-paced city restaurants. A friend of mine, who is highly selective about her dietary needs, was thrilled to see a variety of options that didn’t compromise on taste.
What sets Up Thai apart is not just the food but the overall dining experience. The layout of the restaurant encourages social interaction while maintaining privacy for intimate conversations. You can easily see groups enjoying lively evenings or solo diners quietly enjoying their meals with a book. During peak hours, the pace is brisk but never rushed, allowing each dish to arrive at the perfect temperature and presentation. This balance of efficiency and care reflects a team that has refined their processes over years of practice, likely informed by professional training in both culinary arts and hospitality management.
The restaurant’s location on 2nd Avenue is convenient for locals and tourists alike. Being situated in an accessible part of New York means it draws a diverse crowd, which creates a dynamic and lively atmosphere. Reviews consistently highlight the consistency of the food, the warm service, and the attention to detail in every dish presentation. Industry publications, including local dining guides, have recognized Up Thai for maintaining high standards in flavor, service, and ambiance-a rare feat in a city with thousands of dining options.
One thing that impressed me during my visits is the staff’s knowledge about each dish. They can explain ingredients, spice levels, and pairing suggestions confidently, making recommendations that genuinely enhance the dining experience. According to recent culinary surveys, informed staff can increase customer satisfaction by up to 30%, and Up Thai clearly demonstrates this principle in action. Even the drinks menu is thoughtfully curated, offering Thai-inspired beverages alongside traditional choices, providing a complementary experience for the food.
Every visit feels like a journey through Thailand’s culinary landscape, right in the heart of Manhattan. From the careful seasoning to the attentive service, every aspect of Up Thai reflects an establishment that understands its craft and values its patrons. The combination of atmosphere, menu variety, and expert service makes it more than just a place to eat-it’s a spot where dining becomes an experience you remember.

We absolutely loved our lunch at UpThai! Every dish we ordered was incredible! Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was just as impressive-warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. We were celebrating our twins’ birthday, and the staff surprised them by coming out to sing Happy Birthday with a delicious mango cheesecake and coconut ice cream. It was such a thoughtful touch and made the day extra special. The atmosphere was cozy and vibrant, and everything from start to finish was excellent. Highly recommend UpThai, we’ll definitely be back!
Amazing! We all loved everything we ate. We had the short ribs, the thalay tai, pad kee mao and masaman curry. All were so tasty and flavourful. Some plates were level 4 spicy and it was pretty spicy. But not overbearing if you like spicy. We had Tanya as our waitress and her service was top notch. Such a lovely person and her recommendations were on point. Definitely will to come back.
My mother and I recently visited Up Thai and had a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was quick, friendly, and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere made it a perfect spot for either lunch or a date night. The only small downside was the clear plastic partitions between some of the tables — likely leftovers from COVID — but honestly, that’s just a minor detail in an otherwise outstanding dining experience. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for amazing Thai food and great vibes!
Amazing food! Amazing and very very friendly staff and great cocktails! The vibes were excellent. Every dish we tried was immaculate. Can’t wait to come back with more friends! Highly recommend making a reservation
I tried Up Thai for the first time and it instantly became one of my favourite Thai spots. The mango salad was super fresh and flavourful, the chicken pad thai had the perfect balance of sweet and savoury, and the panang curry was rich, creamy, and packed with amazing flavour. The ambiance was also incredible — warm, modern, and a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Service was friendly and quick as well. Overall, one of the best Thai dining experiences I’ve had. Highly recommend!
After you step into the door, you will meet Host is very kind and beautiful , smiling and friendly to you. Including the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. In addition, the smiling staff Talking about the delicious food.So even though steamed Buns, Pork is dry and hard , i love Steamed Fish with ginger and scallions. But after I’m done,I would like to pack my food home ,I was waiting for the staff to help pack food for me is very long long time, no one paid attention to me. Even though there was a woman had a tattoo came to ask and help me bring my food to pack for me while the restaurant is not busy on that time. On the other hand, after my food arrived. my bill came quickly !!!, How ever all of the staff and manager was cute, smiling and good mood from the entrance of the restaurant.
Places was packed even at 4pm and rightfully so. Went with some friends and tried four different dishes. I would recommend the place for sure. Service was fast, food was plated well, portions were large for the price, and most importantly tasty. I would definitely recommend trying the Thai iced tea lemonade, a wonderful flavor combination I haven’t had before. I will be back.
